Development of communicative competence and the use of communication rules in EFL Class

Abstract

Abstract: Ecuadorian public high schools face serious issues in their classes of teaching Englishas a foreign language. That is why this research iscarried outanalyzethe teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL) to offer solution to 70 students who took part in this research and were from the first year of baccalaureate parallels ``A-B-C``. The main objective is to analyze the EFL teaching in a public EcuadorianHigh school to identify students ́ communicative competences level and based on the students and the teacher sperception and offer solutions to improve it using authentic material and activities which may help students to use the target language in a realcontext. In addition, two interview were applied, one to the students and another interview was applied to both teachers from the English area of the high school. Based on theobtained resultsit couldbepossible to conclude that teaching in a public institution is not an easyjob for all the reasonsalready mentioned in this study but despiteit, teachers always give their best to teach the target language even though they do not have all the necessary tools and equipment.
