Abstract

Abstract: The research aims to analyze the vocational profile of high school students for STEAM careers, for this purpose a mixed, quantitative and qualitative methodology is used by means of surveys of second- and third-year students in public and private institutions and subsequently they were interviewed. The tools used include the UNESCO Global Survey on Gender Equality in STEM and correlation analysis for data interpretation. The results show that there is a very low preference for STEAM careers, attributed to the lack of vocational guidance, knowledge about the labor market and the perceived level of difficulty in these fields. It was found that socioeconomic factors and family structure greatly influence career choice. To conclude, it is necessary at the secondary school level to improve career guidance to ensure that the objectives set by students are aligned with the realities of the labor market. The introduction of mentoring programs and vocational decision-making platforms is suggested.
