| Abstract: | Abstract: The present study titled, the use of authentic material through WhatsApp in teaching listening skills in EFL out-of-classroom settings, aims to determine the impact of using authentic material delivered through WhatsApp in enhancing the listening skills of EFL learners in out-of-classroom settings. 10 students in their second year of bachillerato at the A2 level of English participated in this study, which was carried out in a public school in Guayaquil, Ecuador. In order to collect both qualitative and quantitative data, a mixed methodology was employed. A survey about students' perceptions, a survey about the benefits and drawbacks of using real content on WhatsApp, a survey for the teacher, and an observation sheet were the tools. Furthermore, a WhatsApp group was established where students participated in six listening exercises that combined questioning exercises with videos that served as real content. The findings showed that the students thought the WhatsApp-based activities using real content helped them get better at listening. |
| Description: | Resumen: El presente estudio, titulado "El uso de materiales auténticos a través de WhatsApp en la enseñanza de habilidades de escucha en contextos fuera del aula en EFL", buscó analizar cómo el uso de este tipo de materiales, compartidos mediante WhatsApp, puede mejorar las habilidades de escucha en estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera (EFL) fuera del aula. Participaron diez estudiantes de segundo de bachillerato con un nivel A2 de inglés, pertenecientes a una escuela pública en Guayaquil, Ecuador. Para llevar a cabo la investigación, se utilizó una metodología mixta que permitió recopilar datos tanto cualitativos como cuantitativos. Se emplearon herramientas como encuestas sobre las percepciones de los estudiantes, otra sobre los beneficios y desafíos de utilizar contenido real en WhatsApp, una encuesta dirigida al docente y una hoja de observación. Además, se formó un grupo de WhatsApp donde los estudiantes participaron en seis actividades de escucha, combinando ejercicios con preguntas y videos auténticos. Los resultados indicaron que los estudiantes percibieron las actividades realizadas en WhatsApp como una herramienta útil para mejorar sus habilidades de escucha, destacando el valor del contenido auténtico en su aprendizaje. |
