Descripción del aporte de la agricultura en el crecimiento económico del Ecuador 2000-2022

Abstract

Abstract: Ecuador is an agricultural country. Activities related in some way to agriculture have always been developed, as it ensures that the demand for food is met to supply the general population. The objective of this study was to describe the contribution of the agricultural sector to Ecuador's economic growth during the period from 2000 to 2022. The methodology used was descriptive, with a mixed approach, using secondary data issued by the Central Bank of Ecuador. A comparative table was compiled showing the variations in real GDP and agricultural GDP. The results obtained from the study showed that the agricultural sector's share of Ecuador's national GDP progressively decreased, although it remained a strategic sector, especially during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, where it demonstrated strength by guaranteeing domestic supply and generating foreign currency through exports. It is concluded that agriculture remains a very important sector for the Ecuadorian economy, although its percentage contribution to GDP has decreased relatively.
