Abstract: Abstract:.
Description: Resumen:Rice (Oryza sativa) cultivation is one of the main agricultural activities in several provinces of Ecuador, representing a fundamental economic source for a large part of the population. The research was conducted using a mixed-methods design, employing observation, surveys, and interviews with approximately 120 farmers in the Balzar canton. Six diseases of phytosanitary importance were identified, including Rhizoctonia, Burkholderia glumae, and White Leaf Virus. The incidence of these diseases is primarily related to the high rainfall in the area, as well as inadequate crop management practices, which favor their prevalence throughout the year. Another relevant finding is the limited technical assistance available to producers, which results in low productivity due to a lack of timely and correct decisions regarding agronomic management. Finally, the need to implement prevention and integrated management strategies is highlighted, aimed at reducing the incidence of diseases and improving the productivity of rice cultivation in the region.
