Abstract

Abstract: This essay takes a closer look at La Celestina, written by Fernando de Rojas. This piece is considered one of the most important ones of Spanish literature from the XV century. By showing the emotions of the characters and the social context, the book reflects on human nature, as well as passion, love, and power. This essay has been created with the purpose of analyze how the social stereotypes and machismo have affected the image of women over time, and, at the same time, acknowledge and value how women have moved towards empowerment and freedom through acts of rebellion and independence, in order to break free from limitations that harmed their well-being. This essay is based on the feminist theory which stablishes the woman is a synonymous with the fight against patriarchal environments, where voice and consciousness are the greatest weapons of courage. La Celestina is society s mirror, it reflects inequalities, ambitions, and cultural contradictions. All of this allows to have a deeper connection and empathy with the stories within it.
