Abstract

Abstract: Gender equality and social inclusion are fundamental pillars for sustainable development and the construction of fairer societies. In this context, urban design plays a key role in creating spaces that promote the active participation of women and vulnerable groups in urban life. However, in many Latin American cities, including Loja, Ecuador, architectural, urbanistic, and social barriers persist, limiting equitable access to urban facilities and services. This research proposes the design of a hybrid urban facility with a gender perspective in the city of Loja, enabling the appropriation of public space by women and the community at large. The aim is to integrate diverse functions into a single space, such as education, training, entrepreneurship, and recreation, creating a safe, accessible, and functional environment for all users. Through this design, it is intended to strengthen the social fabric, foster community cohesion, and contribute to sustainable urban development from an inclusive perspective. The study is structured around an analysis of urban needs in Loja, identifying deficiencies in infrastructure and community services through a gender equity lens. Furthermore, social and spatial dynamics are examined to determine appropriate intervention strategies. Finally, a model for urban equipment is proposed that not only provides essential services but also promotes the economic and social autonomy of women, strengthening their participation in public space. The importance of this project lies in the possibility of transforming the city into a more equitable and inclusive environment, where all citizens, regardless of gender or social status, can access spaces that promote their well-being and integral development. Thus, this thesis seeks to contribute to the debate on urban planning with a gender perspective, aiding in the construction of fairer and more sustainable cities in the future.
