Student´s and teacher´s perceptions towards EFL virtual instruction

Abstract

Abstract:The theme of this research is students and teacher s perceptions towards EFL virtual instruction, with the aim of analyzing the perceptions of both students and teachers regarding virtual teaching in the context of teaching English as a foreign language. The methods used were field research at the Maria Piedad Castillo de Levi public educational institution located in the canton of Paján, province of Manabí, where students and teachers were selected as the population, determining a sample of twenty-five upper elementary school students between the ages of 12 and 15, two teachers, and fifteen parents. Structured questionnaires with closed-ended items were given to students, teachers, and parents to obtain measurable and comparable data aligned with the study objectives. For the results process, each question detailed in the survey was analyzed, concluding that one of the main challenges of virtual teaching of English as a foreign language is the limited interaction between students and the teacher, where difficulties are experienced in actively participating, collaborating with peers, and maintaining an adequate balance in oral expression time during classes, which affected the communicative dynamics.
