Los docentes investigadores de la Comunicación en Ecuador durante el periodo 2015-2023 y su impacto en el contexto internacional

Abstract

Abstract: This exploratory study examines communication faculty researchers in Ecuador during the 2015 2023 period and their impact on the international stage from three perspectives: academic offerings, professional profiles, and scientific research. The theoretical framework addresses historical background, academic offerings, legislation, presence in Scopus, and processes of professionalization and deprofessionalization in communication. The main finding of this review is the emerging shift toward short-term communication programs (2 years) and the resulting decline in the availability of bachelor s degree programs. The methodology employs a mixed-methods approach with a quantitative emphasis, focusing the results on data regarding faculty members and scientific articles available in the Open Data system (2015 2023). The results show that, in terms of professional profile, most faculty members hold master s degrees and actively seek PhD programs abroad due to the limited domestic offerings. In the research sphere, the co-funded private sector stands out for its greater efficiency and for concentrating the largest number of high-impact publications in Scopus.
