La oralidad como resistencia cultural afro en la poesía negrista de Nelson Estupiñán Bass

Abstract

Abstract:This research paper, entitled Orality as Afro cultural resistance in the black poetry of Nelson Estupiñán Bass, aims to broaden the field of Afro-Ecuadorian literary knowledge through the study and analysis of the poetic work Canto negro por la luz (1954), in order to reinforce the processes of interculturality and decolonisation within Ecuadorian knowledge production. The research focuses on the analysis of poetic, rhythmic and symbolic resources to argue that orality in Nelson Estupiñán Bass's poetry does not fulfil an aesthetic function but rather an epistemic and political one that reaffirms Afro-Esmeraldian identity in a social and academic context marked, in large part, by integrative miscegenation and Eurocentric heritage. The analysis was carried out from a qualitative, hermeneutic and textual approach to the poems, revealing that black orality acts as an element of cultural and identity re-signification and affirmation in Afro-Ecuadorian communities. For this reason, it is important and urgent to view Afro oral tradition as an essential element of our multiracial identity and one that will help us build a more just, inclusive society that is conscious of its common memory.
