Student´s and teacher´s perceptions towards EFL virtual instruction

Abstract

Abstract:The following research, entitled "Student and Teacher s Perceptions of Virtual Instruction in English as a Foreign Language," seeks to understand the development of classes in an English-centric virtual environment and the challenges this student process entailed. Therefore, a study was initiated at a public educational institution in the city of Macará, using a mixed-methods approach (qualitative and quantitative). Questionnaires and a survey were created for a group of 25 to 30 secondary school students (both male and female), 10 parents, and one English teacher, who was also surveyed. The results showed that the teacher's feedback did not provide complete information and that the students did not fully grasp the topic. Furthermore, the communicative exchange during classes did not foster effective communication, resulting in a lack of a communicative relationship that would allow students to fully develop and express their opinions, ideas, and other thoughts within the virtual classroom. On the other hand, the English teacher's effort to motivate the students was remarkable, as he created a pleasant environment and tried to ensure his classes were appropriate based on her knowledge.
