Estilos de conducción y salud mental en conductores motorizados del sector los Vergeles de la ciudad de Guayaquil, provincia del Guayas, durante el año 2025

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate driving styles, mental health, and alcohol consumption patterns among motorized drivers from the Los Vergeles sector in Guayaquil. A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 49 drivers. Data were collected using an ad hoc sociodemographic questionnaire and three standardized instruments: the Multidimensional Driving Style Inventory (MDSI), the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), and the Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28). The results showed a mixed driving profile, with the coexistence of prudent and maladaptive driving styles. Regarding alcohol consumption, a pattern of abstinence or low risk predominated, with a minimal proportion of harmful consumption. Mental health assessment revealed mild to moderate psychological distress, mainly related to social dysfunction, somatic symptoms, and anxiety/insomnia, while depressive symptoms were reported at low levels. Overall, the findings indicate that the studied population does not present significant mental health impairment or generalized high-risk patterns, although certain behavioral and emotional aspects may benefit from preventive psychological interventions.
