Student´s and teacher´s perceptions towards EFL virtual instruction

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the perceptions of students and teachers regarding the virtual teaching of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). It was conducted in the city of Loja at a public institution within the Saraguro canton, in the El Paraíso de Celen parish, and involved 25 students, 2 teachers, and 8 parents. This study employed a mixed-methods design, collecting data through surveys to understand the perceptions, opinions, and experiences of both students and teachers within virtual classes, considering the research objective. Among the aspects analyzed were the academic environment, feedback, academic resources, and the use of technological tools, among others. The results revealed that a considerable number of students experienced higher levels of stress under this modality, felt there were fewer opportunities to practice the language orally, and highlighted the need for more engaging digital materials to boost their learning. Overall, the study concludes that there are several methods and strategies that teachers should consider to capture students' attention.
