Estilos de conducción y salud mental en conductores motorizados del sector norte de la ciudad de Loja durante el 2025

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research was to evaluate driving styles, mental health, and alcohol consumption among motorized drivers in the northern sector of the city of Loja during 2025. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive study was conducted. The sample consisted of 33 motorized drivers selected through non-probability convenience sampling. Data collection methods included an ad hoc sociodemographic questionnaire, the Multidimensional Driving Styles Inventory (MDSI), the Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). The results showed a predominance of adaptive driving styles, with the highest scores in cautious driving. Furthermore, the main mental health issues were observed in the dimensions of social dysfunction and somatic symptoms. Regarding alcohol consumption, most participants exhibited abstinence or low-risk levels. It is concluded that the drivers evaluated generally demonstrate safe driving patterns. However, indicators of psychological distress and risky alcohol consumption were identified, variables that characterize the mental health status and driving styles of the study population.
