Description: Foreign language acquisition entails more than the knowledge of theories of language development or innovative methods and techniques for teaching English in class. It requires teachers to have full background knowledge of the aspects related to learning and teaching a foreign language. An area of much concern is the students’ native language; and how it can positively or negatively influence their understanding. Being this an issue of true relevance for English Teachers of all levels and for students from all ages, the UTPL (Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja) has provided me with this thesis topic regarding native language interference in learning English as a foreign language, in order to obtain my degree in EFL Teaching.
