Description: The use of supplementary materials in EFL classes, a comparative analysis of private and public high schools is the theme of this research work. The main purpose is to analyze and determine the type, the variety and the frequency in using supplementary materials in EFL classes. This research was conducted in two high schools one public and one private, in Quito during 2011-2012 school period. Three grades were chosen in each school first, second and third year, genders were male and female. Five EFL classes were observed in each year. Two methods were used to developed this process, the qualitative and the quantitative. The qualitative method was applied through observation sheets, questionaires and personal interviews, applied to teachers and students. The quantitative method was used after the data collection to make a comparative analysis of the supplementary material used in EFL classes in both schools . After concluding this research, general findings showed that even though the use of supplementary material is higher in public than in private school, the pertinence , the appropriateness and quality is better in the private
