Abstract: Considering the derivations to populated centers and tourist places in the Loja Catamayo road, the second order variables were determined in sections 1: Km. 4+000 to Km. 11+300; 2: km.11+300 to km. 22+000 and 3: km. 22+000 to km. 33+300. With the fixation of primary stations of counting and the installation of metrocunt 5600 equipment for a certain continuous period, you get the first order traffic variables: intensity, speed and density. Through the analysis of the graphs obtained by relating the variables of first order, speed - intensity; intensity - density; and, speed - density, the variables of second order, capacity and service level of the three sections analyzed are obtained. With the application of the Roadway Capacity Manual (HCM) methodology for two-lane highways by specific slopes, the service and capacity levels are get, in order to compare the results, concluding that the Loja-Catamayo highway operates in the three sections with a service level C and capacity lower than the maximum of the Highway Capacity Manual (2010).
