Abstract: The research work was performed at a school in the city of Cariamanga, with the aim of identifying mathematical talent in boys and girls between 10-12 years of age, belonging to the sixth and seventh year of basic general education during the school year 2012 - 2013. The research design was descriptive and transversal, with a sample of 60 students. The instruments used for data collection were: the screening phase, sociodemographic survey, prepared by the gifted group of the School of Psychology at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja; Screening questionnaires to identify mathematical talent, Primary Mental Abilities Test (PMA) of Thurstone and Teacher nomination scale; and the Instruments of the Diagnostic phase: Questionnaire solving mathematical problems. The results show that students in the control group and the experimental one, are: 3 in logical reasoning, 6 in numerical and 3 in the space; giving a less than 50 percentile. In conclusion, it did not find mathematical talent, in this research.
Description: La investigación se realizó en un centro educativo de la ciudad de Cariamanga, con el objetivo de identificar el talento matemático en niños y niñas entre 10 a 12 años de edad, pertenecientes al sexto y séptimo año de educación general básica, durante el año lectivo 2012 - 2013. El diseño de la investigación fue de tipo descriptivo y transversal, con una muestra de 60 estudiantes. Los instrumentos utilizados para la recolección de datos fueron: la fase de Screening, Encuesta socio demográfica, elaborado por el grupo de altas capacidades de la Escuela de Psicología de la Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja; Cuestionarios de Screening para identificar talento matemático, Test de Aptitudes Mentales Primarias (PMA) de Thurstone y Escala de nominación de profesores; y los Instrumentos de la fase de Diagnóstico: Cuestionario de resolución de problemas matemáticos. Los resultados evidencian que los estudiantes del grupo de control como del experimental, se destacan: 3 en razonamiento lógico, 6 en el numérico y 3 en el espacial; dando un percentil menor a 50. En conclusión no se encontró talento matemático, en esta investigación.
