Teachers and students’ perceptions of teaching and learning English in small classes in Ecuador

Abstract

este research study whose main purpose is to analyze the perceptions of teachers and students about the teaching and learning of English in small classes. It seeks to identify the benefits and limitations that exist in the process of teaching and learning English. To achieve this objective, qualitative and quantitative methods included surveys and classroom observations were used. In comments the use of teaching strategies and resources, classroom management and quality of interaction in five English classes analyzed. The survey seeks to discover the perceptions that five teachers and seventy-five students have about the benefits of teaching and learning English, how students feel when they learn English, strategies and resources that benefit the teaching and possible limitations of working in small classes. The results show that working in small classes is highly positive because students are motivated and can help them integrate and participate actively in classes, which benefits the learning process.
