| Abstract: | Abstract: This research study was conducted to determine the effect of interactive modalities: materials, collaborative learning, and tutorial learning when studying English to improve the four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The sample was 20 students from an English Language Institute that is located in the city of Loja, Ecuador; ten of them attended onsite classes and the others joined online sessions. The mixed method was employed to gather the information; the instruments included a pretest and a posttest that were applied in order to determine the effects of interactive modalities, 3 evaluations that were administered after using each interactive modality, and a survey that was given to students in order to state which interactive modality they preferred. After examining and interpreting the data, it was established that there is a positive impact of interactive instructional modes when learning English as a foreign language; students have improved their academic performance, and at the same time, they have developed their language skills. |
| Description: | Resumen: Este estudio de investigación se realizó para determinar el efecto de las modalidades interactivas: materiales, aprendizaje colaborativo y aprendizaje tutorial al estudiar inglés para mejorar las cuatro habilidades del idioma: leer, escribir, escuchar y hablar. La muestra fue de 20 estudiantes de un Instituto de Idioma Inglés que se encuentra ubicado en la ciudad de Loja, Ecuador; diez de ellos asistieron a clases presenciales y los demás se unieron a sesiones en línea. Se empleó el método mixto para recolectar la información; los instrumentos incluyeron un pretest y un pos-test que se aplicaron para determinar los efectos de las modalidades interactivas, 3 evaluaciones que se administraron después de usar cada modalidad interactiva y una encuesta que se entregó a los estudiantes para que indicaran qué modalidad interactiva preferían. Después de examinar e interpretar los datos, se estableció que existe un impacto positivo de los modos de instrucción interactivos al aprender inglés como lengua extranjera; los estudiantes han mejorado su rendimiento académico y, al mismo tiempo, han desarrollado sus habilidades lingüísticas. |
