| Abstract: | Abstract: The present study analyzed the students' perceptions about motivation to learn English as a foreign language. This study was conducted at a public high school in Zamora Chinchipe. The population comprises 30 high school students between 16 and 17 years old, and 10 English teachers. A quantitative method was used to analyze and contrast data. The instruments used to collect the data were a Likert scale survey and a questionnaire with open and ended questions, which were applied to students, and teachers respectively. The results showed that students have a positive perception toward learning English. Students are motivated to learn the language, such as getting a better job or traveling abroad. Teachers consistently incorporate diverse activities and tasks to motivate students. Moreover, it could be observed that motivation is a significant factor in learning EFL. |
| Description: | Resumen: El presente estudio tiene por objeto analizar la percepción de los estudiantes sobre la motivación para aprender inglés como lengua extranjera. El estudio se realizó en un colegio público de Zamora Chinchipe. La población estuvo conformada por 30 estudiantes de bachillerato de 16 y 17 años y 10 profesores de inglés. Se utilizó un método cuantitativo para analizar, comparar y contrastar la información. Los instrumentos utilizados para recoger la información fueron una encuesta con escala de Likert aplicado a los alumnos y un cuestionario con preguntas abiertas y cerradas aplicado a los profesores. Los resultados demostraron que los alumnos tienen una percepción positiva hacia el aprendizaje del inglés. Los alumnos están motivados para aprender el idioma, por ejemplo, para conseguir un trabajo mejor o viajar al extranjero. Los profesores incorporan constantemente diversas actividades y tareas para motivar a los alumnos. Además, se pudo observar que la motivación es un factor importante en el aprendizaje del inglés como lengua extranjera. |
