Factors that influence high school student s English oral communication skills in Ecuadorian face-to-face learning environments

Abstract

Abstract: The majority of Ecuadorian students face great challenges when Time to improve your oral communication skills. Consequently, this The purpose of the study was to determine the linguistic and emotional factors that most influence the oral communication skills of students of baccalaureate in face-to-face mode. This study was carried out at an institution public educational located in Zaruma, El Oro, Ecuador. The sample was composed by 40 second-year high school students with an A1 level of English and ages between 15 and 17 years old. A mixed method was used and the instruments used to collect quantitative and qualitative data were questionnaires for students and teachers, a semi-structured interview and a observation. The results revealed that both linguistic factors and Emotional emotions critically influence the performance of oral communication of students. However, when comparing both types, found that linguistic factors affect these skills to a greater extent. Specifically, the linguistic factors of native language interference, fluency and accuracy, grammar and vocabulary.
