The use of authentic material through WhatsApp in teaching listening skills in EFL out-of-classroom settings.

Abstract

Abstract: This study investigates the use of authentic material through WhatsApp to teach listening skills in English as a foreign language in settings outside the classroom, while that the objective of the study is to determine its impact on improving the skills of listening to students. It took place in an educational institution in Sucumbíos, Ecuador, employing a mixed methods approach, the research involved 23 third year high school students. The data was collected through questionnaires, interviews and surveys. In the analysis process, the collected data were contrasted, supported and compared with previous literature and findings on the same topic or topics similar. The study concludes that WhatsApp, as a tool to deliver materials authentic listening skills, has proven to be beneficial for the development of listening skills listening. This research contributes to the field of English education by demonstrating the effectiveness of using technology and authentic materials to improve the skills of listen.
