Beschreibung: The topic of this research study is related to the factors that influence the English language teaching-learning process in Ecuadorian private high schools, and its purpose was to identify, determine, and analyze such factors. This research study was conducted in the city of Cuenca where five private high schools were chosen in order to carry out classroom observations. Besides, the teachers of the observed classes were interviewed and surveyed, and one student of each class was also surveyed about the topic of this research. The aim of the classroom observations, surveys, and interviews was to identify the different aspects such as classroom settings, methods, activities, and materials used by the teacher and the opinions of the students about these factors. The factors considered on this study were divided in four variables analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively: factors concerning teachers, students, classroom, and educational institution. As a main conclusion, it is possible to say that the factors that mostly influence the English language teaching-learning process are the level of education of the foreign language teachers, number of students in each class, physical space, and the use of supplementary materials.
