Music in the classroom environment and its effects on the development of the students linguistic skills in the english learning process

Abstract

Abstract: The music has become an efficient and functional tool for the English language teaching. Due to that fact, the present research study Music in the classroom environment and its effects on the development of the students linguistic skills in the English learning is focused on analyzing how music influences the English language learning. The main objective of this study is to identify the effects of music in the improvement of the students linguistic skills. This study was developed in a public institution in the city of Loja, Ecuador. Ten students aged 16 to 18 were selected and divided in two groups to analyze their performance in the English learning process. This study combines both qualitative and quantitative methods. Besides that, surveys, observation sheets and tests were the instruments used to obtain the necessary information. The results were that background music produces positive effects such as concentration and motivation that appear when the background music is applied in reading and writing activities and it has negative effects such as interruptions when it is applied in speaking and listening activities.
