Teledermatología en el diagnóstico de cáncer de piel

Abstract

Abstract: Timely detection of skin cancer is important to establish proper management, reducing morbidity and mortality. A tool that facilitates diagnosis is teledermatology, which benefits from technology due to its visual nature. The objective of this review is to determine the reliability and limitations of teledermatology in the diagnosis of skin cancer. A systematic search was carried out in the databases PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, Scielo, Lilacs, Elsevier; 11 articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed. The research question focused on the diagnostic agreement between teledermatology and the usual consultation; and in the limitations for its implementation. Most of the studies analyzed establish a remarkable diagnostic concordance between teledermatology and face-to-face consultation. Thus, teledermatology can be considered as a reliable tool for the diagnosis of skin cancer in rural and remote areas, where access to healthcare is limited. The main limitations are the internetconnection and the image quality.
