The effectiveness and reliability of using technological tools (Kahoot, Quizizz and Socrative) to assess students; progress in English classes during the pandemic

Abstract

Abstract: The COVID 19 outbreak worldwide has changed all aspects of life, and education has not been the exception. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to examine the reliability and effectiveness of Kahoot, Quizizz, and Socrative as alternative tools to assess the student progress during the pandemic time. The research was conducted using each of the technological tools to verify its reliability and effectiveness. Additionally, the investigator used a quantitative method approach with a sample of eight English and 57 students of 3BGU of a public high school from Cariamanga-Loja with an English elementary level. The research indicates the reliability and effectiveness of Kahoot, Quizizz, and Socrative due to students scoresaround 7,4 and 8,2 points; furthermore, through the analysis of students survey, the participants showed that students would like to continue using ICTs in their assessment. Finally, the teachers survey shows that they prefer this evaluation method because, with the use of these tools, they obtain immediate and reliable results and offer several options that facilitate the evaluation method.
