Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of the research is to know the methodological basis, characteristics, advantages and how the active methodology of PBL is implemented, therefore the objective of this study is to analyze the effect of the application of Problem-Based Learning on academic performance and in the student motivation. It was carried out in the subjects of Language and Literature and Mathematics with the participation of 39 students. This research is a non-experimental study based on a quantitative approach, whose characteristics are: descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional; where the methods were used: inductive, statistical, analytical, bibliographic and field. It was approached through twoinstruments: the measurement of academic performance, and a questionnaire applied to the students to analyze the implications of the methodological process, with this it was determined that the majority of students feel a great motivation for the process of the methodology and the real problem solving. In addition, their academic performance improved significantly with the implementation of problem-based learning, allowing the development of skills such as collaborative work, responsibility, and critical thinking.
