Description: | The theme of this research is ¨The use of supplementary material in EFL classes: A comparative analysis of public and private high schools¨ whose purpose is to find out whether or not EFL teachers use supplementary materials, and how pertinent, appropriate, and qualified those materials are. The investigation took place in a public and a private mixed high school of Latacunga city in Ecuador. The samples were 1st, 2nd, and 3th year of senior high school of both institutions. The students were between fifteen and seventeen years old. In each class of the public institution there were around forty students, while in the private one there were around twenty students per classroom. In order to get the results a qualitative and a quantitative methodology were implemented. This research demonstrated that supplementary materials were used more often in the public institution than in the private one. Visual materials were the most used in both of institutions. It is recommended that teachers must vary the type of supplementary materials they use to make their classes more interesting and beneficial for the students. |
