The use of authentic material through WhatsApp in teaching listening skills in EFL out-of-classroom settings.

Abstract

Abstract:This research investigates "The use of authentic material via WhatsApp in the teaching listening skills in English as a foreign language (EFL) in non-English in person", with the aim of establishing the impact of authentic material shared via WhatsApp aimed at improving listening skills in non-face-to-face contexts. This The study involved the participation of twenty-two 2nd year high school students from a public school of Santo Domingo. The methodology used was mixed, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. The instruments were a questionnaire about the student perceptions, a questionnaire about the advantages and disadvantages of using authentic material on WhatsApp, a questionnaire for the teacher and an observation sheet. Before applying these instruments, a WhatsApp group was created to share six authentic videos along with their corresponding questionnaires. The results show that students perceive that the use of authentic material through WhatsApp improves significantly their oral comprehension ability.
