Analysis of EFL teachers skill, attitudes, and ICT use in Ecuadorian Public High School

Abstract

Abstract:The present research study is about EFL teachers skills, attitudes, and use regarding ICTs in Ecuadorian public high schools. This research was carried out in three public educational institutions in the city of Cuenca. Ten English teachers were selected: four male and six female. They completed a questionnaire, and six of them were selected for an interview. The age of the interviewees varied from 25 to 54 years old. The methods used in this work were quantitative and qualitative. The quantitative method was applied when collecting and analyzing the numeric data from the questionnaires and understanding skills, attitudes and the use of ICTs in EFL classes, whereas the qualitative method was used to understand opinions about the use of ICTs in teaching EFL. The results of the research showed that EFL teachers have very good skills in technological use such as radio, mail, websites, internet, computer, and television. In addition, teachers use of ICTs in EFL generate an innovative and creative contribution, giving access to new forms of communication and benefiting in large proportion to the educational environment.
