Abstract

Abstract: This research, entitled "Students and teacher's perceptions about the factors that influence the achievement of an intermediate level in relation to the CEFR of English in third year high school students at a private school in Quito", aims to investigate the motivational factors of the students, as well as the pedagogical factors and the teachers' language mastery that influence the achievement of an intermediate level in relation to the CEFR. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used for the development of this research. The data collection was carried out through a survey of sixty third-year high school students, as well as a survey and an interview with six teachers from the High School section. Finally, the information was corroborated with a class observation. As a result of this research, it can be concluded that students show extrinsic motivation due to academic-professional improvement factors, however their voluntary use of language outside of academic hours is low, as well as their oral production within the class is minimal . Therefore, it is necessary to adjust certain practices in the classroom, especially in the permanent use of the English language by students, so that they significantly improve their oral production.
