Abstract: Abstract:The study titled "Using AI Tools for Enhancing EFL Speaking Skills Among Private and Public High School Students" aims to explore high school students' perceptions regarding their use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to improve their English speaking skills. Conducted at both public and private educational institutions in Loja, Ecuador, the research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative analyses. The sample consisted of students ranging from the first to the third year of high school, all possessing a minimum English proficiency level of B1. Data collection involved a questionnaire and an interview designed to assess the use of AI tools, their perceived benefits, and the challenges students face regarding English speaking practice. Preliminary results suggested that various AI tools and speech recognition applications significantly boosted students' motivation and confidence in speaking English. This research contributes to the existing literature on language education, offering valuable insights for educators.
Description: Resumen:El estudio titulado "Using AI Tools for Enhancing EFL Speaking Skills Among Private and Public High School Students" busca explorar las percepciones de los estudiantes de secundaria en cuestión del uso que le dan a las herramientas de inteligencia artificial (IA) para mejorar sus habilidades del habla inglesa. Desarrollada en una institución educativa pública y privada, la investigación se llevó a cabo en Loja, Ecuador, utilizando un enfoque metodológico mixto, combinando análisis cuantitativos y cualitativos. La muestra consistió en estudiantes desde primero de bachillerato hasta tercero, todos con un nivel mínimo de B1 en inglés. La obtención de datos utiliza un cuestionario y una entrevista, destinada a comprobar el uso de las herramientas de IA, sus beneficios percibidos y las dificultades que tienen relacionadas con la práctica del habla inglesa. Los resultados preliminares sugerían que varias herramientas de IA y aplicaciones de reconocimiento de voz desarrollaron significativamente la motivación y la confianza de los estudiantes en el habla inglesa. Esta investigación contribuye a la literatura existente en la educación del lenguaje, proveyendo valiosas perspectivas para los educadores.
